About Me:
In 2021-2022, while pregnant with my son, I dove headfirst into birth education, I had hour-long prenatals with my midwife talking through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Afterwards I joined a postpartum support group and Matrescence Circle; I helped band together the moms from my childbirth ed class into a group chat. I found that birth, caring for my newborn, and building community around these experiences were a new foundational pillar in my life. This year as I finished Maternity Leave and my usual work in the animation industry dipped, I had the time and space to realize I wanted to go into community building and maternal support professionally as a birth and postpartum doula! I started my training and have since opened The Moon Rise Doula!
Before this work, my background was in advocacy, organization, mentorship, and working in people-centered roles.
I have been practicing Fertility Awareness Method both as birth control to avoid pregnancy, and when we opted into this wild and amazing parenting journey with conception. I deeply believe that knowledge is power, and that when women reclaim knowledge about our bodies we claim power.
The aspect that calls me to this work is the transformative experience of the mother and birthing person

All families, birthing people, and births are valid
Your body, your choice - informed consent and bodily autonomy are central
Modern obstetrics and gynecology are indebted to the black midwives who came before them, the field gained knowledge directly from the pain and mistreatment of black women who were experimented on without pain medication or consent, and simultaneously still disproportionally fails black mothers, birthing people, and babies, sometimes at the expense of their lives.
With this in mind, I will be offering sliding scale pricing for black mothers and birthing people.
While concordant care is ideal, I hope that accessible advocacy and support can also make a positive impact. I aim to approach this work with cultural and personal humility, to center the birthing person and their needs, and use any privilege I have to amplify their voice.
